Wine Storage and Drinking Temperature

May. 30, 2020

The key to self-confidence when serving wine to guests is to understand how to store and drink each bottle of wine properly. Dark green wine bottles exporter shares with you.

What temperature should wine be stored at?

After ordering a few bottles of wine for home delivery, you should always make sure you have a good wine storage setting. Unless you plan to pull it out the day it arrives, you need to put it in a cool place.

In general, red and white wines are best preserved in an environment around 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Most refrigerators are too cold and the temperature is close to 35 degrees Fahrenheit. This means that unless you have a professional wine cellar, you need to place your bottles in a milder place, such as a basement, a semi-heated garage, a cool closet floor, or a commercial wine refrigerator.

Why should wine be stored at a mid-range temperature? The age better that way. If the temperature is too low, the aging process will be slow, which means that the wine may be too bitter or too sour. If your wine is stored in a hot place, it could take on murky, muddy, or thick flavors that overshadow its perkier undertones.

The wine will deteriorate after being stored in an excessively warm storage environment for too long, or when the cork stopper cannot be stored horizontally to keep the cork moist and oxygen from entering the bottle.

What should be the drinking temperature of wine?

When you are ready to serve wine, you should treat it as seriously as the storage of wine. First, consider whether you offer white wine or red wine.

White wine drinking temperature

Traditionally, white wine tastes slightly cooler than red wine, but this may be a matter of personal preference. However, most white wines cool well in the refrigerator or ice bucket for about 15-30 minutes before drinking. Compared with other white wines, sparkling white wines can also sell well at lower temperatures, because at a temperature close to the freezing point (about 45 degrees Fahrenheit), their refreshing feeling will burst out.

Red wine drinking temperature

The traditional view is that red wine should be consumed at room temperature. However, "room temperature" is not a very precise term, because some families keep the room temperature at 65 degrees Fahrenheit, while others set the room temperature at 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

When red wine is consumed at around 55 degrees Fahrenheit (same as storage temperature), it tastes best. This makes their rich natural play, only a hint of cool taste.
