Top 10 Most Common Defects In Glass Bottle Forming1

Mar. 25, 2020

1. Crack

Cracks are the most common disadvantage of glass bottles. It can be very thin, and some can only be found in reflected light. Frequently, the bottleneck, neck, and shoulders are generated, and cracks are often generated on the bottle body and the bottom of the bottle.

2. Uneven thickness

This means that the glass on the glass bottle is unevenly distributed. The main reason is that the temperature of the glass gob is not uniform. The part with high temperature has low viscosity and is easy to blow thin. The part with low temperature has large resistance and thick. The temperature of the model is not uniform. The glass with a high temperature cools down slowly and is easy to blow thin. The side with a low temperature blows thick because the glass cools quickly.

3. Deformation

The gob temperature and the action temperature are too high, and the bottle ejected from the forming mold has not been completely shaped, and it often collapses and deforms. Sometimes the bottom of the bottle is still soft and will be printed with the marks of the conveyor belt, which makes the bottom of the bottle uneven.

4. Not full

If the temperature of the gob is too low or the model is too cold, the mouth, shoulders, etc. will not be full, resulting in defects such as notches, shoulders, and unclear patterns.

5. Cold slug

The uneven spots on the glass surface are called cold spots. The main cause of this defect is that the temperature of the model is too cold, which often occurs when starting production or stopping production.
